Step 1: Install Crazy Egg

Install Crazy Egg on your website and the world’s first and most trusted tool for understanding audience behavior will be fully at your disposal. Since Crazy Egg recommendations are customized to your traffic and the behavior of your visitors, you'll need to install us on your website. 

 You can install Crazy Egg in three ways:

  1. Cut and Paste a Tracking Script
  2. Native Integrations
  3. Email a Developer 

Log in to your account and click on "Install Crazy Egg" which can be found in the blue menu on the left-hand side of your dashboard. You will be presented with several options for installation based on how your website is designed. We cover scenarios from  Shopify to Drupal to WordPress, as well as how to use HTML for a manual installation. How long will it take to set up? 5 minutes. 

Results usually start showing up within a few hours, but some sites could take up to a day if they receive low visitor traffic.

Step 2: Create your First Snapshot

You can’t fix what you don't know or understand, and that's where Snapshots come into play. Snapshots are the fastest way to get an in-depth understanding of how your visitors are behaving on a given page. They help you identify where to focus your attention to make the biggest impact. 

How long will it take to set up? 15 seconds. 

Get snapshots up and running for each page in a few short clicks! You can create multiple or single snapshots, just choose the page(s) you want to monitor and let Crazy Egg start analyzing the information for you.

Snapshot Status

When you first create your snapshots, the snapshot status will say Pending. It will remain in pending until your first visitor is logged into our system at which point the status will switch to Running. The reason that we wait for a visit to be tracked before we change the status is because we want to be sure that your tracking script is installed correctly. Explore the Five Reports Available Through Snapshots

Crazy Egg Snapshots provide  five different reports designed to help you answer five unique questions. The reports are HeatmapScrollmapConfettiOverlay, and List.

1. Where are people spending their time?  

Your customized Heatmap uses a variety of colors to help you understand where people are spending their time (white) and where they aren’t (blue).

2. Where are people clicking? 

Review your  Overlay Report to understand what Call-to-Action (CTA) copy is the most popular and effective.

3. Who are my best and most engaged customers? 

Your  Confetti Report documents every click on the pages you’re tracking and allows you to further segment and organize visitor engagement by referral sources, search terms, and more.

4. Where are people abandoning my site? 

Review your  Scrollmap Report to get a feel for how far down the page people are scrolling, and where people stop paying attention to your site and your content.

5. How do I see a comprehensive list of where visitors are clicking, including elements that are not visible on the website like pop-ups? 

The  List Report displays every single element that received clicks on your page in a tabular format. This provides you with a complete overview of the exact links and areas where visitors are clicking, including elements that aren't visible or tracked in the other four reports. 

You can also use the List Report to gain a better understanding of which elements correspond to specific markers in the Overlay Report. This is a helpful feature if you're not sure about the naming scheme of the different areas of your website.

Step 3: Explore Visitor Recordings

Now that you have a clearer idea of how visitors are reacting to your site, it's time to dive even deeper with Recordings. User Recordings let you see what your website visitors are doing in real time, almost as if you had a seat next to them. You'll be able to see the immediate impact of product launches and even understand the exact moments that potential customers are stalling. 

All you need to do to get started is to navigate to your Recordings dashboard and then click on Settings

Now toggle on the site that you would like to record and you're ready to go!

Step 4: Implement Your Own A/B Test - No Code Necessary

The next step to increasing your conversions and landing those sales is to start A/B Testing. Armed with visual knowledge from your Snapshots and real world user research, it's important to test which changes will make the most impact on your audience. The great news is that you don't need to be a developer to implement your own A/B tests - we'll guide you through the whole process! 

First navigate over to your A/B Testing dashboard, which you can find in the blue menu located on the left hand side, and then click Add new test

Now you'll be able to choose which page you'd like to improve, the tweaks you'd like to test against the control page, and also the goal that you're aiming to accomplish.
